About
My name is Tuka Alhanai, and I lead the Laboratory for Computer-Human Intelligence (CHI-lab) at New York University Abu Dhabi, where we develop A.I. technologies to enhance human-machine interactions. As faculty, I have engaged deeply in the design of new MS and PhD academic programs, and fostered relationships with prominent regional middle-eastern partners to sponsor multi-year student training and research programs.
Beyond R&D, I also founded Ghamut Corporation, a technology company that develops products that build communities, and provides professional services in the domain of software engineering, machine learning, data infrastructure, project management, and business strategy. Ghamut talent derive their experiences from the University of Cambridge, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Boston Consulting Group, Samsung, Thomson Reuters, Allstate, and S&P Global. Ghamut was the recipient of the MIT Legatum Award (2016), a winner of MassChallenge (2017), and a grantee of the highly competitive NSF SBIR Award (2019).
I graduated with a PhD from MIT in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (2019). I have received multiple national and international awards including the MIT Technology Review 35 Under 35 MENA Award (2018). My work has been published in top artificial intelligence venues (IEEE, ACM, AAAI), and covered by global media outlets including BBC, The Wall Street Journal, Wired, and TechCrunch.
